Home From the Hospital

Well, this is sort of a re-post for those of you who already know what’s happened.

So, Wednesday night I’m sitting online, minding my own business and getting caught up on everything from the day.  I got up to pee once I thought that I was all caught up and started spotting pink.  Then, the next wipe was red blood.  The one after that was alot of red blood with a little clot.

Doc had me go to the hospital to be monitored to ensure that everything was okay with Charlotte and that I wasn’t contracting.  So, I sat on the monitors for an hour.  The bleeding stopped by the time I got to the hospital so I figured I would get to go home.  Well, the doc had other plans.  She wanted me monitored overnight.  Ugh.  So, I got a room and got all hooked up again.  They came in and took a TON of blood–a ridiculous amount–like 9 vials.  They checked all kinds of stuff.  Then, they came back like an hour later and took more!   Two hours after that they took MORE!  They literally drained me.  By the morning (when they took another 4 vials) my total blood count was low, but not going any lower.  Thank goodness.

Charlotte looked good on the monitor all night.  I didn’t have any contractions either.  I’m happy for that!  I didn’t have any more bleeding either.

This morning they sent me to get an ultrasound.  I was supposed to have another one done on Monday anyways, so it wasn’t a big deal.  Charlotte’s growth is right where it’s supposed to be–so no IUGR as of now.  That was sweet news to my ears!  She is now head down, which I had figured out by where her kicks land these days.  Fluid level looked good as well.  I still have to go into the hospital on Monday for an ultrasound on my left leg to make sure there isn’t a blood clot in there–as I’ve been having swelling on one side only–which is weird, to say the least.  The only bad news with the ultrasound is that I still have previa.  I asked the doc if it has moved at all since my last ultrasound, but she didn’t have my chart with her at the hospital.  So, I’ll probably find out at my next appointment.

Doc is concerned still about preterm labor (because of my history and the previa too).  She said now that her bigger concern is that the first bleed with previa is usually not much to worry about, but the second bleed can result in major blood loss and they’d take me in for an immediate c-section if I have a heavy bleed.  So, she had me get the first steroid shot to mature Charlotte’s lungs last night while I was in the hospital.  I have to stay up til 1:30am tonight and go back to the hospital for another one.  They hurt like a BITCH.  I have never had such a horrible shot in all my life!!  However, the doc says that the effects of the steroids can last up to a month so this will protect baby girl for awhile just in case something comes up in the next 4 weeks.

Later today once I was home the doc’s office called and told me to pick up an iron supplement.  They said my iron levels were VERY low.  So…I don’t know if that could have caused the bleeding–anyone know?
